What’s the connection?

I talk a lot about presentation skills and selling abroad.

To me, the two seem pretty damn close, barely a half-step away from each other, since they require pretty much the same skills.

But the other day, a friend of mine drew something to my attention: The connection between the two seems obvious to you (me). After all, I’ve been living in the world of both for 12+ years.

However, in the eyes of most people, there is almost no connection whatsoever.

Interesting. So here’s where I see the connection: The connection is that both are heavily dependent on the building of trust. If you are good at that, you can pretty much do either one.

Giving a presentation? If your audience trusts you, it won’t matter that your hands are shaking.

Selling something abroad? If your buyer trusts you, it won’t matter that you’re a foreigner and your accent is funny.

So in both, building trust is absolutely necessary.

More on the connection in the coming days.
