Since I live in Turkey, very few of my clients are native speakers of English.
Often, they work abroad, whether it’s in the US, UK, or Canada, and they ask me about accent reduction. They say their foreign accent is getting in the way of acceptance in their professional or social lives.
Here’s what I tell them:
Embrace your accent. Don’t try to sounds like the locals. Your accent is a sign that you have an ability few do. And yes, there are ways in which it will make your life more difficult. But that is outnumbered by the doors that will be open to you that are not open to others.
