In response to the other day’s email about how Can can extend his career, and therefore his ability to support his family, by speaking on panels, my friend Lynn Swayze, a marketing consultant in the US, makes a very good point. Lynn says,
“CEOs like having people others admire on their team.”
Lynn’s was an excellent comment, one I’d like to dig deeper into…
Can’s future CEO is benefiting from OPSC (remember, OPSC = other people’s social capital) just like Can did. Just like social capital from the other speakers rubbed off on Can when he got up there on stage, Can’s new social capital is rubbing off on Can’s future CEO.
In fact, when Can walked into his future CEO’s office for his interview, the CEO already had that in mind. “If I bring Can onto my team, I’m going to look cool, too.”
In your interviews, wouldn’t it be nice to go in with an advantage like that, right from the start?
