I was sitting there at breakast, and it hit me. I had thought it was so obvious, but in fact it was not:
A POV (“point of view”) is not an opinion.
Humans almost expect everyone to have an opinion on everything. If you don’t have an opinion, you sound stupid, or ill-informed, or even worse, weasely.
But remember, a POV is not an opinon, it is a position others are taking the other side against.
If everyone around you has an opinion, refusing to have an opinion is a display of backbone, a display of resisting peer pressure.
Now, with your lack of opinion you will have to be as thoughtful and articulate as if you had an opinion. Simply saying, “I don’t have an opinion” is not going to earn you backbone points. And remember, displaying backbone is the whole point here.
