Something to say

One of the more embarrassing moments of my life was when I told a story to Maya.

Or, more accurately, failed miserably to do so.

You see, when I was in university, I was totally hot after Maya. She was beautiful in all the right ways, with just enough of an edge that she was up for any weird, geeky activity anyone could come up with. In other words, she was the complete package.

So one day when I found myself sitting in the room alone with her on the couch, I thanked my lucky stars. What had I done to deserve this bounty from the heavens?

She turned to me and said, “So, tell me a story.”

And I completely froze up. The useless, flabby words that spilled out of my mouth were utterly forgettable. Even I have no idea what I said. Something stupid about a cat, I think.

When someone wants to hear a story, whether she’s a hot girl named Maya or one of your potential customers, you need to have a good one at the ready.

And in order to have a good one, you need to have something to say. In this short from the podcast, guest Alex Smith goes into how impossible it will be to have a good story if you have nothing to say:
