On AI and consulting

I have a number of clients in the consulting business, and many members of this email list are consultants. This one goes out to them…

Some outside the industry say consulting is all about the collection and presentation of data.

However, the real business of consulting is CYA (don’t think I’m hating on consulting, I mean that in the most loving way).

Only when customers’ boards start saying to CEOs “ah, okay, no worries” when the CEOs say “That risky strategy I tried, the one that failed completely and led to our bankruptcy, I got from ChatGPT” will consulting companies stop existing.

In other words, never.
