Jesus and mold

One of the things that I enjoy about writing this newsletter is trying to find the connection between things that normally have little to do with each other. For example, what does the rock band Love and Rockets have to do with storytelling.

In doing so I tend to, a couple times a week, run across references to things that I mention in the newsletter. I don’t know why that is, maybe my mind is just always stuck in “connect two seemingly unrelated things” territory, and so I notice things I wouldn’t normally notice.

For example, there’s this blog that I enjoy, an economics blog called “Marginal Revolution.” I’ve been reading it for about 15 years. Most of the time it’s about pretty geeky economic stuff, but sometimes it’s about random things.

The other day it was about a guy in Utah who gets hired to pose as Jesus in photos, and it reminded me of that email where I mentioned Bono “went Jesus” and U2’s music went downhill from there.

You might be wondering what this has to do with anything, and the short answer is that it doesn’t.

But there is one thing that is connected to something. The other day I was reading Gaping Void’s newsletter. Remember Gaping Void? They are Hugh Macleod’s HR / organizational design consultancy in Florida. I enjoy reading their blog and getting their newsletter.

The other day, right about the same time I mentioned that humans are like a fungus, Gaping Void mentioned that Brazilians felt affected by the fire a couple years ago at France’s Notre Dame, and how that illustrated that there is a connection between us humans, even when we are Brazilians who have never been to France.

See how that works? Just like you need to show some emotion when you give a presentation, because that’s how the people in your audience get excited, two people separated by an ocean (me and whoever that was at Gaping Void) were thinking about the connections between humans right about the same time.
